I recommend the Alice 2.2 version over the new 3.0 beta or 3.0 alpha when it comes out
This is because...
- it is much easier to use
- Alice 3.0 is for more experienced users
- the tutorials mostly in Alice 2.0 or Alice 2.2 or Alice 2.2.1
- Even though Alice 3.0 is more organized and has better graphics it is much harder to use because many of the terms have been changed
Books
I recommend to buy the book called Learning To Program with Alice: Second Edition by Wanda P. Dann, Stephen Cooper, and Randy Pausch
~this book teaches you many of the fundamentals necessary for advancing
*it comes with an Alice 2.2 and 2.0 disc for downloading
>do not buy this book just for the downloads!!! get the downloads and updates off of http://alice.org!!!
~the book makes a mistake sometimes, your program might not have what their's has so just skip that lesson
